If You Feel Like You're Losing Your Teen

A free training for parents navigating an intense, strong-willed or troubled teenager when nothing seems to work anymore.

Learn why the behaviour you're seeing may not be the real problem, and why changing the conditions around your teenager may be more powerful than trying harder to change the behaviour.

Especially helpful for parents dealing with explosive behavior, shutdown, or risky choices.

In this free training you'll understand:

  • Why your teenager's behaviour may be an expression of something deeper, not the real problem itself
  • How attachment, nervous-system regulation and the environment around your teenager can shape the relationship
  • The shift from trying to control the outcome to creating the conditions for change
  • The three qualities you can develop as a parent: regulation, attunement and presence
  • Effective practices that you can start using immediately

You're not alone

Does This Sound Familiar?

Explosive or constantly pushing limits
Shutting down or refusing to talk
Ignoring rules that used to matter
Pulling away from the family
Taking risks that scare you
Getting involved with the wrong influences
Acting like nothing affects them anymore

And over time, the home can start to feel tense all the time.

Small things turn into arguments. Conversations go nowhere. You try different approaches, but nothing seems to change.

Many parents eventually reach a moment where they quietly think:

"I don't know how to reach my child anymore."

And eventually you start wondering: "What am I missing?"

Look beneath the behaviour

The Behaviour Isn't the Whole Story

When a teenager becomes explosive, withdrawn, defiant or reckless, it's natural to focus on the behaviour.

So you try to correct it. You give more instructions. You set more consequences. You push harder. You try to find the right thing to say.

But the behaviour you see on the outside may be an expression of something much deeper happening on the inside.

And when the relationship has already become strained, more force can create more resistance.

There is another way to approach this.

Instead of becoming increasingly dependent on a particular outcome:

"I need my teenager to stop."
"They need to listen."
"This behaviour has to change."

You begin creating the conditions where your teenager can feel safe enough to regulate, reconnect and grow.

And that starts with you.

Your nervous system
Your presence
Your attunement
The conditions you create

You stop trying to force the outcome and start changing the conditions.

Inside the free training

What You'll Learn

This training introduces the foundations of a different way of relating to your teenager.

The behaviour isn't the problem
Understand why what you see on the outside may only be an expression of what's happening underneath.

Attachment and connection
Understand what can happen when a teenager becomes more oriented toward peers than toward their parents—and why increasing control can create more resistance.

Outcome dependence vs. condition dependence
Learn the central shift: stop making your teenager's behaviour the measure of whether you're succeeding, and start creating the conditions where connection and healthy development can emerge.

Regulation, attunement and presence
Discover the three qualities that form the foundation of your relationship with your teenager.

Becoming the lighthouse
Learn what it means to become a grounded presence your teenager can return to when life becomes overwhelming.

A practice you can start immediately
You'll also receive a simple breathing practice you can begin using immediately to help develop your own nervous-system regulation.

About the guide

I've Been the Teenager on the Other Side of This

David Björkström

I know what it feels like to be the child everyone is trying to control.

I grew up with severe ADHD. I couldn't sit still, couldn't stay quiet, and was constantly getting into trouble. From the outside I looked rough and difficult. Inside, I was extremely sensitive.

I experienced a lot of anger, rejection and bullying, and eventually I started using alcohol and drugs to escape what was happening inside.

That eventually became a ten-year heroin addiction.

I got out of it at 24.

Since then, I've spent years working with young people and families and studying what happens beneath behaviour, trying to understand the deeper mechanics behind these patterns.

What I've learned is that many teenagers who look out of control are experiencing something very different internally.

And sometimes the first step isn't figuring out how to control them.

It's learning how to create a different environment for the relationship.
